About the Host: Brad Guthro
If you’re new to Live Lean TV, my name is Brad Guthro, and I’m a 42-year-old. Actually, since I was born in 1980, 42 is my chronological age. However, based on my results from Viome, I found out my biological age is different. Is it older, is it younger? Keep watching, as I’ll share my biological age in just a few minutes. So, regardless of my age, I’m a husband and dad of two young kids and one puggle, and I’ve been helping people live lean 365 days a year for over 10 years. Identifying Poor Gut Health Symptoms
Let’s talk about the symptoms of poor gut health. So, I’ve done numerous content on the importance of gut microbiome health. Rather than going deep into that again, I’ll share the links to that content in the description below. However, according to today’s sponsor, Viome, if you are struggling with any of the following symptoms, it could be a sign that you have poor gut health. So, if any of these apply to you, you can use a 20% off coupon code “LiveLean” at the affiliate link in the description below, or you can scan this QR code right here with your phone.
Understanding the Viome Full Body Intelligence Test
So, what does the Viome Full Body Intelligence Test tell you? Essentially, it measures the health of your gut microbiome, your oral microbiome, and your human cells. Now, based on these tests, you’ll receive your results in two or three weeks, with your eight health scores. So, based on these eight health scores, you’ll then receive personalized food recommendations categorized as either superfoods, enjoy foods, minimize foods, and avoid foods. Since everybody digests food differently, what may be a health food for most people may not be good for your unique microbiome. I was quite surprised at my food recommendations, which I’ll share shortly. Finally, you also have the option of getting custom-formulated supplement recommendations based on what your body is lacking. With all that out of the way, let’s dive into my Viome Full Body Intelligence Test results.
Conducting the Tests at Home
Instructions on how to do the tests at home: Once you order the test online, the kit arrived on my doorstep within a few days. There are three simple at-home tests to be completed: a stool test, a saliva test, and a finger-prick blood test. Everything you need to do the tests is included in the kit. The next morning, in a fasted state and before brushing my teeth, I completed all three tests. I’ve done quite a few at-home health tests like this over the years, so the process was very straightforward to me. However, if you’re new to at-home testing kits, you can simply follow the step-by-step directions included in the pamphlet or watch the quick videos. After I was done with the tests, I simply included them in the postage-paid envelope and dropped them off the same day at UPS. In addition to these health tests, there is also a 15-minute health questionnaire to be completed inside the Viome app. Overall, the testing portion of this service was very seamless and straightforward. Within two to three weeks, I received an email that my results were ready for me inside the Viome app.
Understanding the Test Results
Let’s check out my results, which I’ll add to the screen. So, first off, before getting into this, you’ll receive a lot of data from this Full Body Intelligence Test, so it can be overwhelming when you first look at it. As mentioned, I received eight main health scores that represent an overall assessment of key health areas that impact how I feel, how I look, and how I age. Based on the score, each main health area is rated either good, average, or not optimal. Now, these health scores determine your food and your supplement recommendations. Since the data is very in-depth, rather than sharing all of my health scores in this video, I’m actually going to include them on my blog, so you can go there and look at them. Lastly, my biological age was 37. So, as I talked about earlier, I was born in 1980. At the time of this video, I’m 42, so I’m actually five years younger biologically than my chronological age. So, I feel even younger than 37, to be honest. But that’s awesome, five years younger. I must be doing something right.
Exploring Food Recommendations
Let’s get into the food recommendations, because that’s the really interesting part. The food recommendations listed as superfoods and enjoy foods include nutrients that support your unique microbiome health. Now, the foods listed as minimized foods and avoid foods may be harmful to your unique microbiome. Here are my superfoods based on my unique microbiome. First off, these food recommendations only include one-ingredient whole foods. Viome clearly includes a list of foods that everyone should avoid, including packaged and processed foods containing sugar, artificial sweeteners, vegetable oils, refined grains, and white flour. You won’t see items like these on any of these lists. So, according to Viome, the following superfoods are personalized to my test results. So, I have them broken down into superfood vegetables to start off. Artichokes, arugula, gnocchi mushrooms, Jerusalem artichokes, maitake mushrooms, pumpkin, shiitake mushrooms, and white mushrooms. So, mushrooms, I gotta start eating more of them. Superfood fruits: apples, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, currants, grapes, guava, kiwi, nectarine, pineapple, pomegranate, and strawberry. So, I eat a lot of those already. Superfood grains and legumes: oats and lentils. That’s interesting, maybe I have to eat some more oats, maybe even include some lentils. Superfood proteins: clams, mussels, and turkey white meat. Superfood fats: avocado and hemp hearts. And superfood herbs and spices: cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, green tea, hot pepper, peppermint, fresh sage, and fresh spearmint. So, again, let me preface this by saying these foods are unique to me. If you did this test based on your unique microbiome, these foods may be on the avoid list for you. And speaking of that, here are the foods I should avoid based on my unique microbiome. There are 20 of them: asparagus, bell pepper, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, crab, goat, haddock, lemon, lime, mustard greens, paprika, passion fruit, shrimp, spinach, tomato, trout, turmeric, turnip, and watermelon. Wow.
Adjusting My Approach Moving Forward
So, here’s my game plan moving forward. I’m taking all of this data with a grain of salt, to be honest. As a 42-year-old man, I feel great, or I guess I’m really 37 years old now, right? Regardless, I’m more excited to incorporate more of these superfoods into my diet while minimizing the other foods that don’t serve me. The other great thing about the test is if it shows you should be avoiding certain vegetables that you don’t like, like broccoli, but you’re forcing yourself to eat them because you’ve been told they’re healthy for you, now you don’t have to eat them anymore because you know they’re not good for you. So, you could swap in arugula instead of a certain type of spinach, you could swap in zucchini, you could swap in more mushrooms, more carrots, and don’t eat Brussels sprouts or cabbage or whatever other foods show up as avoid foods. Right, code strawberries are good for your microbiome, though, aren’t they? Hey, so am I never going to eat any of those minimize or avoid foods? For me, I’m always striving for moderation and fitting it into my overall healthy lifestyle. Adding extra stress into my life over food just isn’t serving me in the long run, especially when I’m five years younger biologically. However, I will create a new meal plan to swap out some of those avoid foods and replace them with more of my superfoods and enjoy foods. Now, Viome actually recommends you limit those minimize foods to 20% of your daily intake. Therefore, there’s still room for me to consume some of those minimized foods. So, if you’re interested in seeing those food swaps, comment below, and maybe I’ll create an episode specifically on how I build my new meal plan based on these new food recommendations.
Conclusion: Embracing Personalized Health
Hopefully, you enjoyed my Viome Full Body Intelligence Test review and results. I watched a few other Viome review videos, and it was interesting to see that some of my superfoods were avoid foods for those people, and my avoid foods were superfoods to them. Very interesting. It just goes to show everybody’s body is different. So, don’t forget to use a 20% off coupon code “LiveLean” at the affiliate link in the description below to get your kit.
